Dance Events in April 2016

I've done gone to many dance events this month and they have all been amazing. Therefore, I am going to take a recap of some of the events I have been to this month. Enjoy!

On April 16th, a couple of kids from dance talent went to Ms. Farrell NYU Performance. It was an amazing show and all the dancers were amazing. Ms. Farrell is alumni from NYU and performed in their Ugandan dance as well as their Alumni dance. The performance was very entertaining and kept the audience focused. The clip below is a hip hop dance performed in the show.

African Dance Unit

We just wrapped our African-American choreographers unit and it was a truly amazing unit. At first it was a struggle because it was something out of all our elements. But it was very fun to learn and it broaden all of our eyes to doing different types of genres. We learned this dance with a lot of rotations and fast movements. We had to learn to move our bodies in different ways and work on our musicality and rhythm. This unit taught me that its okay to broaden your horizons, especially in dance, when there are so many styles to learn from. I would definitely try another class with this style of dance.

Winter Arts Festival

I had the honor to be apart of the winter arts festival this year. For those who don't know what this is, the winter arts festival is people of different talents showcase their talents. I got to be apart of the "I see fire" dance, and it was a big change. When the 8th graders practiced it, we weren't with any of the 7th graders. There were about forty 7th graders and eight 8th graders. At first, I felt a bit taken back with all the people on the stage. However as we practiced more and more, I got to see a more of an artistic side to the dance. This taught me to be more comfortable to different situations. Overall, the winter arts festival was a success and help me see the array of talents at MS 447.

Paris Opera Ballet!

Elon Reid

10/16/15

In dance worlds news this week, Lam Chun-wing was the first Chinese person to be hired at the Paris Opera Ballet in the 346 years it has been opened. This is an important event because it shows how diversity in dance has changed in the world today. It also shows that all dancers are treated as one because despite his race, he is changing the world one step at a time. Lastly, he changed gender stereotypes because he is a man doing ballet. Ballet it typically taken as a women's dance. The link to the article I read will be down bellow, Hope you enjoy the article! Bye. xx

P.S.If it doesn't work, I'll try again!

All-Boys Ballet School

Elon Reid

9/29/15

In dance world news, there is a swirling debate on why world's only All-Boy ballet School is a good idea. But before I state my opinion, I have two announcements. First, prior to my first blog about the "What Do You Mean" Choreography by Matt Steffanina. He posted a lesson on how to do the dance. I suggest you learn it if you really liked the dance and want to learn it yourself. I will leave a link to that below. Also, I will be putting another link to the article in which I read. Back to the topic now, I think an All-Boy's ballet school is a great idea because in our society today boys are supposed to act one way but not another way. So, if this All-Boy's school help find people that are just like them. I think it's a really great idea. There are many boys in the dance world, so this shouldn't be an issue. I hope many of you try to do the dance and read the article. Hope you enjoy it all! xx
