African Dance Unit
We just wrapped our African-American choreographers unit and it was a truly amazing unit. At first it was a struggle because it was something out of all our elements. But it was very fun to learn and it broaden all of our eyes to doing different types of genres. We learned this dance with a lot of rotations and fast movements. We had to learn to move our bodies in different ways and work on our musicality and rhythm. This unit taught me that its okay to broaden your horizons, especially in dance, when there are so many styles to learn from. I would definitely try another class with this style of dance.
Winter Arts Festival
I had the honor to be apart of the winter arts festival this year. For those who don't know what this is, the winter arts festival is people of different talents showcase their talents. I got to be apart of the "I see fire" dance, and it was a big change. When the 8th graders practiced it, we weren't with any of the 7th graders. There were about forty 7th graders and eight 8th graders. At first, I felt a bit taken back with all the people on the stage. However as we practiced more and more, I got to see a more of an artistic side to the dance. This taught me to be more comfortable to different situations. Overall, the winter arts festival was a success and help me see the array of talents at MS 447.
